As we mark World Water Week (August 24–28), The Forward Trust is proud to reaffirm our commitment to protecting one of our most precious natural resources – water.
Water sustains life, supports health and is essential to recovery and wellbeing, all central to our mission. As an organisation that supports individuals through addiction recovery, housing and employment services, we understand that sustainable practices go hand-in-hand with meaningful social change.
Human health: Clean water is essential for hygiene, nutrition and mental wellbeing.
Environmental responsibility: Reducing water waste helps fight climate change and conserves vital ecosystems.
Operational efficiency: Monitoring our water use across sites helps us lower bills, prevent waste and build a greener organisation.
At Forward Trust, we’ve taken the first steps to become more water-conscious:
Conducting site audits to monitor water use and identify leaks or excessive consumption.
Collaborating with facilities teams to install low-flow taps and toilets where possible.
Working with staff and clients to promote behavioural changes that support water conservation.
Exploring rainwater reuse and greywater systems at select sites, such as The Bridges - Hull and Clouds House.
Some small ways you can help conserve water include:
Turning off taps while brushing or shaving.
Reporting leaks immediately.
Reusing water when safe to do so.
Our recovery work is rooted in resilience and self-awareness — the same qualities needed to build a sustainable future. By managing our water use wisely, we’re not only protecting the planet but also reinforcing the values we strive to instil in our clients and communities.
Let’s make every drop count this World Water Week.
