A group of around 90 people took to the streets of Canterbury on Saturday 28th March for a six-mile recovery walk aimed at raising awareness for recovery and mental health.
Organised by Reach Out and Recover (ROAR Kent), the walk saw participants journey from Canterbury to Chartham and back, united by a shared commitment to promoting hope, support, and understanding around recovery.
Participants of all backgrounds came together for the event, highlighting the strength of community in addressing addiction and mental health challenges and supporting those on recovery journeys. The turnout was a powerful show of solidarity, with walkers using the opportunity to connect, share experiences, and encourage open conversations around mental health and addiction.
The event forms part of ongoing efforts by ROAR, Forward and local supporters to reduce stigma and ensure that those facing challenges with addiction feel seen, heard, and supported.
Speaking after the walk, Chantel Gell, a Recovery Navigator at Forward, said:
“Today, we had an inspiring day in Canterbury, participating in a Recovery Walk alongside Reach Out and Recover (ROAR) and other organisations to raise awareness about addiction, mental health, and recovery. It was wonderful to see around 80 participants come together for this important cause.
“We embarked on a beautiful 6-mile walk, enjoying the scenic route while engaging in meaningful conversations. The atmosphere was filled with unity and support, as people connected and shared their experiences.”
We hope the success of the walk will inspire further community-led initiatives and continue to build momentum for recovery awareness across the region.
