Recovery Housing

Service delivered in the community
Support for people who have had issues with drugs or alcohol find somewhere safe to live. We provide accommodation for who need more freedom than is offered in supported housing but who are not yet ready to live independently.

Who is this service for?

You can access this service if you:

  • Are in recovery from addiction; and
  • Are willing to be housed in Kent; and
  • Want to complete a day programme for substance misuse

How it works

Recovery Housing is for individuals in recovery from addiction that are making good progress and need more freedom than is offered in supported housing, but want to continue to live in close contact with supportive peers. The average length of stay is around one year.

Between three and five people at a similar stage of recovery live together in the same house. You’ll support one other with things like cooking, cleaning and gardening as well as motivating each other to maintain healthy lifestyles.

All residents are assigned a peer mentor to provide personalised support. You will also need to attend our local day programme for substance misuse, whilst engaging with our team of resettlement workers who regularly ‘check in’ with those living in the house.

Things we help with include:

  • Accessing benefits and paying bills
  • Providing advice about education, training and volunteering
  • Providing advice about counselling, mental health and emotional support
  • Signposting to other sources of support
  • Linking you into fellowship groups (such as Alcoholics Anonymous) and our own Forward Connect recovery community

When you’re ready to move on, we’ll support you to find somewhere suitable to live, either through our Vision Housing scheme or with other options such as social housing. We’ll help with applications, viewings and interviews with landlords, keeping in touch for a further 12 months to make sure you have all the support you need in your new home.

And if we can’t house you ourselves, we’ll know someone who can, so please do still get in touch.

Before I knew it, my case worker had found me a place to stay and even though it was raining and grey on the day that I moved in, I didn’t even notice it – I was just so grateful to have a place to call home.
