The first woman to graduate from The Bridges residential treatment centre in Hull, is sharing her story to highlight the life-changing impact of recovery support for women affected by addiction.
In a new video released by The Bridges, Louise reflects on her incredible recovery journey. Louise completed the programme in December 2023, becoming the first female graduate of The Bridges. Since then, she has rebuilt important relationships, developed tools to support her recovery and created a positive future for herself in the community.
"The Bridges gave me my life back," says Louise. "I'm forever grateful for what they did for me."
The video is introduced by Elle, an Addictions Counsellor at The Bridges, who uses her expertise to explain the process of our robust drug and alcohol treatment within the context of residential rehabilitation. Located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, The Bridges has been helping to support people for over 20 years.
Louise's story reflects a growing number of women who have come through The Bridges over recent years, demonstrating the importance of ensuring residential treatment is accessible and responsive to women's needs.
The Bridges provides a safe, structured and trauma-informed environment where people can step away from the challenges of day-to-day life and focus on their recovery. Alongside therapy and specialist support, women can access dedicated sessions and activities designed to help build confidence, improve wellbeing and support long-term recovery.
In the video, Louise explains how treatment helped her understand the factors behind her drinking, manage difficult emotions and develop healthier coping strategies.
She also speaks about the relationships she has been able to rebuild since entering recovery.
"I didn't speak to my brother for nearly three years when I was drinking and I have him back in my life today. I have a really lovely relationship with my parents now."
Ellie says that recovery is about more than overcoming addiction. Through trauma-informed support, therapeutic interventions and strong peer relationships, women are given the opportunity to heal, grow and move forward with their lives.
Louise's journey is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and that the right support can help people reclaim their future.
