Oakhill Secure Training Centre in Milton Keynes provides accommodation for up to 80 children, both male and female, between the ages of 13-18. The children placed here are serving a custodial sentence or are remanded to custody by the courts.
The team at Oakhill provide individualised psychosocial support and education to children experiencing substance use issues in the community and in the centre.
One-to-one intervention is delivered to individuals in structured treatment after the core day (09:00-16:00) as the children are contracted to complete 25 hours of education. To support the population of children in the establishment, the Substance Misuse Team have liaised with the Enrichment Team to create the SMS Evening Club. This evening includes interactive activities and information derived from the library of interventions to share knowledge to the cohort of children in the establishment. Auricular acupuncture has previously been offered as a holistic relaxation treatment for willing children and staff in the centre, and is due to be reinstated sometime in early 2026.
At the centre, we work alongside DRPA Secure, who are the main healthcare providers at Oakhill.
Upon admission, a CHAT Assessment is completed within the first 5 days of being in the centre. Children can also refer themselves to the service or can be referred by a staff member at a later date.
