About HMP Prescoed

HMP Prescoed is a category D men’s open prison located in Coed-y-Paen, Monmouthshire, Wales.

Our programmes and services

At HMP Prescoed, we deliver pre-release housing interventions through our Camau accommodation service. We work with men on probation who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness to progress through their housing journey and take steps towards stable accommodation.

Canol Service - now delivered from within HMP Prescoed

The Canol Service is an integrated substance use and wellbeing support service delivered across the Cardiff and Vale prisons estate (HMP Cardiff, HMP Usk, HMP Prescoed). Working in partnership with G4S Community and Dr PA, The Forward Trust provides trauma-informed psychosocial support to men in custody, helping individuals access recovery, wellbeing and through-the-gate support throughout their custodial journey.

The service offers structured interventions, group work, workshops, wellbeing support and continuity of care, placing the individual at the centre of their recovery and helping them build healthier, more positive futures both in prison and beyond

The CORRE Practitioner for the Probation PDU or region will take the lead with creating the referral in the Refer and Monitor Interventions system, which will then be sent to the Camau team for us to make contact and engage in the service.

Unsentenced (Remand)

Referrals can be made by Prison Resettlement Teams and court-based probation service staff via a quick Microsoft Forms based referral form. For more information, or if you have any difficulty referring, please contact us at probationwalesadmin@forwardtrust.org.uk.
