About HMP Prescoed

HMP Prescoed is a category D men’s open prison located in Coed-y-Paen, Monmouthshire, Wales.

Our programmes and services

At HMP Swansea, we deliver a 12-week, abstinence-based drug treatment recovery programme called Y Bont, which means ‘The Bridge’ in Welsh.

‘Y Bont’ is based on the 12-step model for recovery from addiction, but with fully integrated ‘trauma informed’ elements.

Everyone will have the chance to learn useful coping skills and receive guidance to make real changes. Some of the reasons why we often find it hard to change - even when we want to - are explored, along with strategies for maintaining abstinence and creating different, less destructive, behaviour patterns.

Clients will be supported by trained Drug and Alcohol Practitioners. Our Practitioners can also support clients with advice and guidance on what through-the-gate support is available upon release.

Upon release, we also offer access to the Camau accommodation probation service.

Referrals

Any prison resident can refer themselves (‘self-refer’) to the service. If a staff member or third party makes a referral, we will assess the service user if they agree to engage. All residents of the prison are seen as part of their induction.
