Lily Allen is an Award-winning singer, songwriter, author, and actor.
She began her illustrious career at the age of 17 posting covers and original recordings on Myspace garnering thousands of listeners. Following this success, her debut single, “Smile”, went double platinum and peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart. Her debut record, Alright, Still, sold over 2.6 million copies worldwide earning her a triple platinum certification in the UK, a gold certification in the US, and Grammy, BRIT, and MTV Video Music Award nominations. Allen’s follow-up album, It’s Not Me, It’s You, which included hit singles “The Fear” and “F*ck You,” hit number one on the UK Albums Chart. The album, which was lauded by critics, marked an evolution shift, and cemented her status as a culture-defining talent. Both her third and fourth studio albums, Sheezus and No Shame, debuted on the UK Albums Chart. Collectively, her music has received 31 award wins and 73 nominations.
In 2021, Allen embarked on a new creative endeavor making her stage debut in the West End premiere of Matthew Dunster’s 2:22 A Ghost Story. For her performance, she was nominated for a prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for “Lead Actress” and won “Best Actress” at the WhatsOnStage Awards. Following, in 2023, Allen starred in Martin McDonagh’s legendary play The Pillowman, alongside Steve Pemberton at the Duke of York’s Theatre, and in Sharon Horgan’s six-part comedy-drama Dreamland for Sky Max.
Currently, Allen can be found on her acclaimed podcast, Miss Me?, alongside lifelong friend Miquita Oliver. Produced by BBC Sounds, the duo invites listeners to tune in twice weekly as they pick apart the complex world around them, diving deep into pop culture, politics, music, family, love, life, and death. Each episode offers sharp conversation, scathingly funny, and fiercely smart takes from two women who helped shape so much of British culture past and present.
Her upcoming projects include a turn as the titular Hedda Gabler, one of theatre’s most irresistible heroines, in HEDDA, a thrilling reimagining of Ibsen’s masterpiece adapted and directed by Matthew Dunster, and as Mary Datchet in Night & Day, an adaption of Virginia Woolf’s album of the same name.
Allen is a longtime champion of The Forward Trust and is honored to serve as an ambassador for the organisation. She recently marked five years of sobriety.
