The Forward Trust is proud to announce that Tony Adams MBE, former England and Arsenal captain and Chair of The Forward Trust, will be taking on the extraordinary challenge of running the London Marathon this April in support of our life-changing work.

Tony will be joining #TeamForward alongside 24 other runners, raising vital funds to help people break free from cycles of addiction, crime, and disadvantage, and to support recovery, rehabilitation, and hope for individuals, families, and communities across the UK.

This year, Tony will be celebrating 30 years in recovery from addiction and has spoken openly about his dependency to alcohol which blighted his career and led to the short prison sentence.

Now, as Chair of Forward, he is putting himself to the ultimate physical test, running the gruelling 26 miles to shine a spotlight on the charity’s mission and the importance of recovery services.

Speaking about his decision to run, Tony said:

“As the Chair of The Forward Trust I have decided, against all medical and friendly wisdom, to take on the huge challenge of running the London Marathon this coming April.

“Forward really is the most incredible charity, working tirelessly to help those among society at their lowest ebb by breaking people out of cycles of addiction and offending and helping families, individuals, and society.

“It is one of the great honours of my life to lead The Forward Trust, and coming up to 30 years of sobriety myself, whatever I can do to help Forward, I will.”

Every mile Tony runs will help fund Forward’s vital services, supporting people to rebuild their lives, strengthen families, and create safer, healthier communities.
