Buvidal® is a long-acting injectable treatment for opioid dependence. It is given weekly or monthly by trained healthcare professionals and removes the need for daily medication. Buvidal helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms and supports stability in custody and on release.
We offer access to Buvidal in this prison through a full clinical assessment by the Substance Misuse Service. Treatment is voluntary, and all options will be discussed to support informed choice.
We work with a range of external and internal partners to deliver our services at HMP Downview, including:

Community Substance Use services.
Any prisoner can refer themselves (‘self-refer’) to the service. If a staff member or third party makes a referral, we will assess the service user if they agree to engage. All prisoners are seen as part of their induction.
All service users on a substitute-prescribing regime will automatically be referred for further substance use support.
