The Outrun – why The Forward Trust was granted an exclusive preview screening of Saoirse Ronan’s new film
Last week, The Forward Trust welcomed special guests to watch Amy Liptrot’s film, The Outrun, based on her memoir of the same name because Amy’s own recovery began with one of Forward’s earlier programmes.
The Outrun features the talented Irish actor, Saoirse Ronan, who plays Amy, and Papa Essiedu as her partner during her addiction days and it enjoys breathtaking views of the Orkney Islands.
The Outrun is now a best-selling book and the film, adapted by both Amy and Nora the director, is on general release from 27 September.
It is thanks to our connection to Amy that StudioCanal, the film’s production and distribution company, kindly arranged this special event at the Charlotte Street Hotel’s private screening room.
Before the screening, Forward trustee and acclaimed film producer, Lisa Bryer, interviewed Amy and Nora to explore Amy’s recovery journey, finding catharsis in writing and nature and for Nora, her creative vision for conveying in film her experiences in addiction and hope.
Thanks to Studiocanal for the popcorn, non-alcoholic refreshments and canapes, guests including trustees, donors and fundraisers were able to learn more about The Forward Trust as CEO, Mike Trace, hosted the evening.
“Amy is an inspiring example of how recovery from addiction can produce life-changing transformation and insightful lessons – and in her case, a best-selling book and now a film!” said Mike.
“Both Amy and Studiocanal were very generous to organise the preview screening of The Outrun at Charlotte Street Hotel, gathering together guests who were just as captivated by the film as Amy and Nora’s Q&A with producer and Forward trustee, Lisa Bryer.
“We’d like to thank everybody who attended and the staff at Charlotte Street Hotel who helped to host a memorable and special evening.”
The Outrun is released in the UK on Friday 27th September and showing at cinemas nationwide.
