Forward Enterprise Celebratory Event: A Celebration of Milestones and Impact (11/12/24)

Last week, The Forward Trust Enterprise Celebratory Event brought together an inspiring cohort of individuals, funders, partners, and supporters to honour the achievements of ex-offenders who successfully completed the Forward Enterprise Ex-Offenders Business Bootcamp.

The event, generously funded by the City Bridge Foundation, was a testament to the transformative power of resilience, education, and tailored support.

The event’s purpose was multifaceted: to celebrate the learners’ milestones, reflect on the year’s progress, and foster meaningful connections among participants, funders, and stakeholders. Attendees included program alumni, many of whom had faced significant societal barriers due to their criminal histories, yet demonstrated extraordinary determination to rewrite their narratives through entrepreneurship.

Tevfick Souleiman, Head of Enterprise, shared his deeply personal journey, reflecting on his experiences with offending and time in custody. Tevfick’s candid presentation underscored the importance of resilience – not just for overcoming offending-related challenges but for navigating life’s broader adversities. His story served as a powerful reminder that setbacks can be a springboard for personal growth and societal contribution.

Dan Whyte, Co-Director of Doing What Really Matters (DWRM), also took the stage. Having spent 20 years in custody, Dan’s journey is one of perseverance and extraordinary achievement. As a doctoral student in criminology and founder of DWRM – a pioneering organisation that connects individuals in custody with higher education opportunities – Dan highlighted the transformative potential of education. His presentation was a masterclass in confronting societal perceptions of serious offenders and advocating for support systems that foster second chances.

The event also celebrated the programme participants with a certificate presentation ceremony led by Asi Panditharatna, Executive Director Employment Services.
