Samy’s story
A chain of traumatic events, job loss and poor health caused Samy to become street homeless in 2019. As a result, he was very vulnerable and in poor mental health.
Samy was referred to our private rented sector accommodation service. His case worker, Louisa, helped Samy access benefits he was entitled too, and found him a studio flat in in a central London within a couple of weeks. Because Samy had no possessions, we also provided kitchen utensils and other essentials to make him feel at home.
I came to The Forward Trust because I was homeless and in a very bad place. After meeting the team, I suddenly didn’t feel alone anymore. They took time to understand me, and my situation, and helped me with many things.
Louisa also linked Sammy to a GP in his new area to support him with his mental health, as well as access English classes to help him integrate and connect with the local community.
Samy says:
“I came to The Forward Trust because I was homeless and in a very bad place. After meeting the team, I suddenly didn’t feel alone anymore. Before this, I felt desperate and life wasn’t worth living. I needed the people at The Forward Trust to help me. They took time to understand me, and my situation, and helped me with many things.
“I am feeling so happy in my new accommodation. I feel I can now focus on other areas of my life to grow and make my life even better.
“The Forward Trust feel like family, I will never forget what they have done for me. They have given me a chance to start my life again.”
The house supplied by Forward gave me a bit of my life back and the breathing space I needed to turn my life around. When I was in prison, I saw people come back soon after they left, after re-offending because they had nowhere to live. Having housing and support from Forward helped me stop this cycle and change my life.
